The Six Dimensions of Wellness - 778 Words
Physical, emotional, intellectual, interpersonal, spiritual, and environmental wellness are all considered the six dimensions of wellness with occupational wellness being the possible seventh. But what are these exactly? And how do they apply to me and my health and wellness? The first of the six dimensions is physical wellness, which is your bodyââ¬â¢s overall wellness. This includes the absence of illness and disease and your bodyââ¬â¢s fitness level. You have to make good, healthy choices to be physically well. Eating healthy, exercising, and seeing a doctor on a regular basis for check-ups are all conducive to physical wellness. Some good examples of people who have achieved physical wellness are; Lance Armstrong and the Venusâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Two people I believe have developed interpersonal wellness are Oprah, and, on a personal note, my sister. The fifth dimension is spiritual wellness. The spiritual wellness of a person has to do with their own person al beliefs. A person doesnââ¬â¢t have to believe in any one God, they just have to believe. To practice spiritual wellness is to have a sense of belonging to something greater than yourself and to have joy, compassion and, fulfillment in your beliefs. Examples of this dimension would be the Pope, and the Dalai Lama. The last of the six dimensions is environmental wellness. By definition environmental wellness means the livability of oneââ¬â¢s surroundings. A few steps we can take to improve our environmental wellness are reducing waste and pollution by recycling or carpooling when ever possible, and keeping your surroundings clean and free of hazards. Two people I admire for their concern for our environmental wellness are Al Gore and Cameron Diaz. The seventh dimension (as some experts say) is occupational wellness. This refers to the level of happiness you gain through your job. Career experts say that setting career goals that reflect your personal values is the way to achieve occupational wellness. Personally, I believe as long as you enjoy your work, the people you work with and have the opportunity to learn and grow with your job you can find occupational wellness.
